Dear Friends,

Please forgive this non-individualized communication, but I've been swamped by a huge outpouring of support, many offers from Golden rescue groups, and several offers of fine forever homes.

However, the dog's current caregiver, who happens to be the abuser's mother-in-law, has apparently developed a case of cold feet. After asking for my help (and getting plenty of it, thanks to all of you), two nights ago she essentially told me to back off. She's afraid that if she gives their dog away, her daughter and son-in-law will prevent her from seeing her five grandchildren. What a mess, huh?

For now, I want you all to know that the pup is safe. The woman who has him is very, very good to him and has no intention of returning him to the abusive home. I am still hoping to get him out of the area, however.

I would greatly appreciate if you would forward this message to anybody you might have alerted to this dog's plight. I am getting many emails every day from kind people like yourself, and they need to know that the pooch has a home lined up, if only we can get him away from his current caregiver. And we're working on it.

Thank you very, very much. Seeing the outpouring of concern and love for and willingness to take care of this dog has been a wonderful way to start this new year.
