Thanks for joining me Over Coffee
A writer by passion and profession, I've been writing since I was old enough to know how, so establishing a weblog
seemed a natural progression. By adding a blog to my site, I can speak about my passions and life, share my writing, art
and photos, and comment on current events.

All Hail the Wise Mayan and Aztec Cultures Before I begin... Big shout out to Dave -- it was a great coffee break and a pleasure meeting you. He's as smart and funny in person as he is in his blog!
In my best Dr. Nick voice: "Hey Everybody -- It's Chocolate OBSESSION Week at FoodTV. So I think I'll jump on the bandwagon...
Or, you can take an online tour of the Chocolate Exhibition (hosted by The Field Museum, Chicago).
If you're all about the eating of the chocolate (and who isn't), "may we suggest" a Godiva truffle? Their website is so polite...kindly "suggesting" their fabulous selections. Godiva is one of my absolute favorite chocolatiers.
I am partial to truffles, creams/ganaches and nuts/pralines. As a matter of fact, as I look through the delectable choices, I notice my favorites tend to include the following words: mousse, coffee/espresso, *****nut praline. Maybe I'll try to narrow down a list of top 5 or 10. (Feel free to share yours!!) OH! And let's not forget the deliriously delicious and intoxicating Godiva Liqueurs, including the brand new Godiva Cappuccino...
Pssst! Want to know a secret? If you go to a Godiva shop the week after Valentine's Day (or any other chocolately goodness holiday), you can usually get the holiday boxes at 30-50% off. They're only a few days older and still scrumptuous--Godiva just can't sell the themed boxes at full price after the holiday.
If you're in Virginia, you might want to check out The Trellis Restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg. "Why?" you ask. This restaurant is owned by the "chocolate guru"...Marcel Desaulniers, the chef/baker and author of the Death by Chocolate cookbooks (who will personally autograph his books for guests, or so I've read).
Chocolate Trivia: Real "death by chocolate" can occur with our canine companions. Chocolate can be lethal to dogs as well as some other domestic animals including horses. The culprit is theobromine. Theobromine is a mild (to humans) stimulant similar to caffeine. In dogs it (over)stimulates the cardiac muscle and the central nervous system, and also affects the kidneys.
Early warning signs of chocolate (theobromine) ingestion include nausea and vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, muscle tremors, and increased urination or incontinence. Treatment is to induce vomiting and get your companion animals to an emergency vet. NOTE: Dark chocolate contains more theobromine than milk chocolate and the white variety has the least.
