What Would Jesus Do? Apparently Jesus would stand around a park bench making fun of passers-by and occasionally throwing snap-and-pops at strangers to scare/startle them while pretending he didn't do it (then laugh at them after they'd passed)...at least, that is what I am to believe based on "the representation of Christ on the earth through His people" -- the ones I saw yesterday in Washington D.C.
Yesterday in an effort to enjoy the nice weather and get away from all the sad and stressful news of late, Phil and I headed into the District to check out the Smithonian's Kite Festival: Celebrating 100 Years in Flight taking place on the National Mall. We took our video camera to snap off some stills and a little footage if anything interesting caught our attention. We had enjoyed the kites for a while, tried to take a trip through the new exhibit at the National Air & Space Museum, which proved challenging for other reasons, and then headed back to the Mall outside.
Having been walking around for a few hours by then, I suggested we sit on a bench to rest for a little while and take in the sights of the mall as the kite competitions wound down. Phil went over to a street vendor for some old-fashioned popcorn and a couple of cokes to stay the grumbling in our bellies since we still had a Metro ride and a short drive ahead before we'd get home to eat.
While he was off, I witnessed the sharing of Christ's love, as described above, by a group of about 6 to 8 youths for Christ. They got a particular charge out of scaring an Asian family with a petite wife/mother pushing a stroller who actually jumped because they managed to get one (or more) of these mini-firecrackers to land right behind her feet. All of these fine examples were wearing matching t-shirts boldly proclaiming this sentiment: "Reflecting the people and music of God's World...Celebrating the Unity of God's Kingdom." Here's a tip reflectors of God, don't advertise, if you can't deliver!
Since we had the video camera with us to capture the kiting fun, I was able to catch the youthful t-shirts on tape.
