What a bunch of Pansies...er, Violas How we spent our Sunday afternoon...
It was a pretty nice day here in Virginia, so we spent some time making our balcony a nicer place to be...we cleaned/swept the leaves and dirt that have collected in the corners, bought and hung an American flag, planted a container garden (these neat planters are actually shaped to fit tightly onto the balcony railing without having to screw anything into the wood), and put up our table and umbrella.
One large planter is filled with Violas (which seems to be just another name for Mini-Pansies). They are quite pretty. We picked light and dark yellow, a light violet and some that are a combination of yellow and violet. The round planter smells wonderful because it is planted with fuscia hyacinths, and the last planter is full of fresh herbs including thyme, oregano, rosemary, and lemon geranium--all of them smell fabulous, too. We'll be adding at least one more with some vegetables (red onions and probably tomatoes) -- maybe more boxes on some plant stands if these seem to flourish.
