Thanks for joining me Over Coffee
A writer by passion and profession, I've been writing since I was old enough to know how, so establishing a weblog seemed a natural progression. By adding a blog to my site, I can speak about my passions and life, share my writing, art and photos, and comment on current events.

Why B Negative?
Because that's what they need. Let me elaborate...we've been getting lots messages from the Red Cross lately. Or at least I have.

As you may have read, back in February we donated blood because there was a shortage and we wanted to help. We wanted to become regulars so was to begin our cycle of donating...only problem was the next time I went my iron was a little low, and I was turned away. Phil donated though. I ramped up iron-rich and fortified foods, started taking a multi-vitamin and tried again. Again, just a smidge too low. That time Phil tried to donate platelets, but his veins weren't visible enough or something, and we left with our arms intact.

So, it has been maybe a month or so since we last visited the donor center. That's when the calls started. We, or rather I, began getting nearly nightly messages from the ARC. The other night I happened to be home and answered when they called. I was told that my particular blood type, B-negative, is urgently needed. I probably surprised her by saying yes to her request that I set an appointment to donate. I did disclaim it by warning her I'd been twice recently rejected for low iron. She said, "All we ask is that you try."

With all the negatives that I've been seeing in my private life lately, it seems like a good opportunity to turn a negative (B-) into a positive, if I can. I am set for an appointment on the 9th--guess I'd better start doubling up on prunes, spinach and legumes again. Heck, even if my iron isn't high enough to donate blood again this time, at least I can take comfort in being remarkably regular...sorry, that was probably a TMI!

Any other B-negatives out there reading who are willing to take the plunge with me? Or anyone really--they always need donations of all blood types. All it takes is an hour and a little prick. And isnt' it a much more rewarding prick than that idiot driver in front of you going around the world to the left? After you donate, you can break the rules and have a beer and get all tipsy because you're down a pint--whaddaya say?

All we ask is that you try...
