Ah...Musings Ever notice that as soon as someone says, "You can't flush your toilet," all you have to do is use the bathroom?
Fairfax County is now under water alert. Apparently the power is out at all three Fairfax County water processing plants due to Isabel, which means water is limited and what comes through may be contaminated. They are urging citizens who can actually get water out of their pipes to boil it. Even if you can get it, they are telling people to conserve all they can and not flush, etc. Last I checked, our pipes are dry and rattling, so (of course) all I can think of...
UPDATE: NBC4: "Officials say it could be 48 to 72 hours before full service is restored." ACK!!!!
UPDATE II: We got water pressure back last night (Sept 19th) but it is still irratic, occasionally beige and, according to Fairfax authorities, possibly contaminated. That means we are still required to boil the water for uses other than flushing. While bottled water covers drinking, cooking and coffee-making, it is far too expensive (especially in time of increased demand) to use for other tasks. Washing dishes has to wait--we bought some picnic products to keep the need for washing limited to cookware. Despite the inconvenience (and messiness), I count us lucky compared to what a lot of people suffered and continue to suffer from Isabel's flood waters.
