Lucky Eleven The (Best) Director needs a new pair of shoes! And with Best Picture, he's got lucky 11! Eleven nominations and wins for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King! Lets be honest though, this is a recognition of the entire trilogy as much as this third film. Of course, this Best Picture award recognizes just how hard Peter Jackson worked to bring the epic tale to life, but it could not have been made without the literally thousands of people involved at every step of production of this and the other two films -- his fellow writers (and wife), cast, crew, producers, artists, technicians, craftsmen, et al. I have such respect for these folks. And truth be told -- I wish I were one of them. They give us fantasy and dreams--good and bad. Count them as mini-vacations from reality or, from the documentarians, small doses of reality and slices of other lives and parts of the world or history that we might not otherwise learn about. We need film and television (at least occasionally), like we need books and dreams, to fresh our minds and divert our thoughts from the mental pressure and stresses that can build up.
