I Have Found Heaven...and apparently it's in Wisconsin! Today I've stumbled across a website for the Cheese Factory Restaurant on Wisconsin Dells Parkway in (of course) Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. But, it sounds like my idea of culinary heaven!
The first page I reach reads: "Cappuccino Bar & Soda Fountain." An image of a 1950s-style diner catches my attention while a promise of specialty coffee drinks and dream desserts lures me to read more about this mysterious place. Desserts with names like "Murder My Sweet" (layers of bananas, hot fudge and vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream, nuts and a cherry) and "Cloud 9" (white chocolate mousse with a dark chocolate cake center, topped with white chocolate curls and served on a bed of raspberry sauce) are intriguing.
As I scroll through the list of desserts at the soda fountain and bakery, I spy "vegetarian links." Hmmmmmmm...? Then, I realize below the menu it notes menus of low carb, low fat and even vegan dishes. I have to peak, don't I?
I click through to the menu -- I almost can't believe my eyes. Breakfasts that include sides of vegetarian sausage links, huevos rancheros with veggie chorizo and eggs benedict with vegetarian ham. The lunch menu reveals similar fare such as veggie pastrami reubens, grilled tofu chicken salad and "don't be a chicken" tofu cutlets. Then, the dinner menu! Decadent vegetarian selections -- not just pasta either -- that make my mouth water. Appetizers like Eggplant Romano and Tofu "Rattlesnake" lead t main courses of polenta romesco, mushroom stroganoff, (vegetarian) moussaka, barbecued tofu shiskebobs and vegetables au gratin. And, many partnered with genuine Wisconsin cheeses. (View the full menu via PDF.)
So, now I am left wondering...how far is Wisconsin Dells, WI, from Washington D.C. anyway?
