Today's University Students And I thought it was bad when kids pulled these kinds of stupid stunts. Check out this story about some stupid college students from WPVI.com:
Discipline Follows Guinea Pig Experiment BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) Dec. 20, 2004 — Some Indiana University students could face a hefty fine for tossing a guinea pig from a dormitory window with a makeshift parachute.
The students used a garbage bag, dental floss and masking tape to create a parachute and then dropped the animal, Bloomington Animal Shelter manager Leigh Ann Hoffacker said.
Fortunately, the guinea pig landed in a tree and survived. The trembling rodent was discovered moments later by a freshman.
School janitors were able to reach the animal through a third-floor window and Robinson took it to the shelter.
The identities of the students who tossed the guinea pig have yet to be determined, but Hoffacker said the list has been narrowed down by dorm administration.
Police likely would not do much, she said, but the shelter's animal control office can issue a $500 ticket for animal abuse.
You don't usually see stories like this that don't include at least one of the following: "thought to be intoxicated," "boyish prank" or "on a dare." Of course, when/if the students' identities are discovered, I have no doubt one or more will be included in the follow-up story.
UPDATE: "Parachuting Guinea Pig Prankster Caught"
According Associated Press via The Journal Gazette, the IU student confessed to dropping the guinea pig--his own pet, no less--out of an 8th floor dormitory room. No surprise -- the 19-year-old told police it was a "prank gone bad." Of course, the article doesn't mention his name as he'll no doubt be treated more like a teenager than a man despite the fact that 19 years old is old enough to drive, vote, join the military, marry...and know right from wrong.
