Fashion Faux Pas While reading the Washington Post online this morning, I was served up an advertisement from Neiman Marcus for a shoe from the Stuart Weitzman Collection. Now, I don't like Neiman Marcus much to begin with, but this shoe...well, it is not only a fashion faux pas because it is ugly as sin, it is a disgusting display of animal cruelty. Stuart Weitzman - Suede, Mink-Trim Ballerina Slipper, Beige It apparently wasn't sufficient for Weitzman to design a shoe requiring the death of one animal -- this atrocity required two. Now, I'm not a paint-thrower or anything like that. I prefer education as a means to ending the cruel practice of using animals as "textiles" - particularly in this day and age of modern fabrics. That said, I can't help wishing that anyone with the bad taste to buy and wear a pair of these things gets them pissed on by a dog who sniffs out the two mammals on her feet. And, perhaps with this example fresh in our minds, we should all saunter over to NeimanCarcass.com, learn a bit more about the fur industry and maybe write a little note to the folks a Neiman Marcus. See, sometimes web banner advertising on news web sites DOES reach people. |
